“Planting Seeds for the Future”

“In each moment our experience is determined to a great extent by seeds from the past that are bearing fruit right now. In each moment, too, we can plant a seed intentionally that will create fruit in the future.”

—Ben Connelly, “Cleaning Out the Storehouse

This quote came into my inbox recently and it totally speaks to where I’m at in this moment – on an adventure that has come from previous work and connections that I made during my time at the University of Waterloo.  It is so important to live in the present moment but as an historian, I also recognize the importance of paying attention to those moments in time where we have experiences (good and bad) that are the result of our actions.   We shouldn’t fixate on the past but we should be reflective and self-aware of what is happening so that we can choose a path forward that works for us.  So, what seed are you planting today that will bear fruit in the future?
